At the end of the year what do you do? Are you like me and just make resolutions that you won’t probably stick too? And if so, are you tired of it too?
I most definitely am. I am ready for some real effing change. I felt like this 6 months ago actually (yay me) but I found myself unexpectedly pregnant and it threw me for a loop. Not that I am not happy nor am I too far out from having little children, that it is a big change. But I was just getting to the end of nursing my youngest and I was so ready to shift into high gear for myself. C’est la vie.
So here we are a month into the new year. And I am starting to realize that I don’t have to wait for this baby to be born to still do those things. Will it slow me down a little? Yes. But is that fine? Yes.
I can get started on anything I want to accomplish, now. Right now. I am re-inspired to begin working towards a goal.
HERE IS WHAT I AM DOING:
In honor of this and the new year I am picking three areas of my life that I can begin to make some baby steps in right now. Three areas where I can move the needle and it doesn’t take an overhaul of my life or a resolution commitment. Perhaps, health and fitness, business and finances. It could be relationships, spirituality and parenting though, it depends on what you want to focus on most right now.
Within those three areas, I am choosing a goal that I want to achieve in the next 12 months. It can definitely play into a bigger vision for my life but I want it to be my reality within this year.
Then I am brainstorming 3-5 steps that I can take to move me closer to that goal. This isn’t new, ground breaking science. It is real, practiced tactics that many thought leaders can teach you. They all have a slightly different way of doing it. But it all comes back to the same overall steps.
The truth is you can’t attack all your goals with the same ferocity. It just doesn’t allow you to make headway in your life that keeps you motivated to keep going. If you attack a few steps, you see and feel the change and it keeps you going. It also improves every other area of your life.
If you have ever been one to work out, you know what I am talking about. When you get your workout in, everything else seems better that day and possibly a few days after. You have more energy. You get more done. You sleep better. The list goes on and on.
This is the same principal.
All of this could go along with more in depth vision planning for your life. You may want a 1 year, 3 year and 5 year vision that you work towards. And it all needs to start somewhere, all it takes is one change.
As an example, one of my goals is health and fitness. I am halfway through my third trimester of my pregnancy but I started working out again the end of December. Do you know how hard it is to workout at this stage?? But I didn’t give myself some ridiculous goal. I set the intention to workout at least two times a week and nothing crazy. I am not doing 45 minute cardio sessions. I am just moving my body and resting as much as I need. I can’t even believe how much stamina I have gained just doing this.
This one change has helped me feel so much better in my whole life. And you can do it too.
What areas will you choose to level up in your life?
