You know what I am talking about here right? The inability to find that word, the simplest word, it is that THING we drive in the garage! Ahh yes the CAR. Please tell me I am not the only one with this cloudiness in my head. I’m not? Oh thank god, ok. Let’s move on.

It is also that feeling when you wake up that you have not slept in 147 nights.

It is also the fumbling and bumbling that happens when you try to pick up your keys.

I call this feeling mama fog.

Your babies are so wonderful. You could not love them more than you do right now and yet you do each day. But why in the hell did they have to take your body, hair AND brains. Listen I hear you. I am the one struggling to find the word for car. So we need to give our bodies back what it took out of us to have these beautiful babies.

Start with a multivitamin

A multivitamin will allow your body to stop using its own reserves for what you need daily. Truthfully is there anything left anyway? We should probably start building it back up. Thank heavens for Garden of Life gummies. I would never have been able to continue to take a prenatal without these. Morning sickness was SO bad. I found these though and was able to chew them up before bed each night. They are also a much better vitamin than you may find in the store because they are made from actual plants and foods.

Say no to sugar

I read somewhere that sugar was never meant to be consumed without fiber. Doing so makes it a toxin to your body which is why it creates inflammation. I have no studies to back this but it made sense to me. Quit eating crap that has no nutritional value and can actually cause you harm. Easier said than done, I know. Inflammation can cause brain fog on its own. Eat healthy lean meats and veggies. Give your body what it NEEDS. Many people swear that cleaning up their diets also cleared up their minds. It is a no brainer! Puns are my favorite second only to dad jokes. HA!

Supplement

If you remember a previous post of mine, I mention this. I particularly like things like flax meal, collagen and brewers yeast because of their galactogogue effects. I really believe these can help with health because of their nutritional benefits and also making breastmilk. You could also find a super great greens drink for an overall supplement. It came as a recommendation from my chiropractor who is very into holistic healing. I think there is so much information regarding gut health and overall health and how they work together and it makes sense to take care of those guts!

Try intermittent fasting

There is a lot of research on this and paleo and any other diet you can find. I am not saying get on a diet. I am saying control the times you eat. Many people have claimed to feel better, think more clearly and lose weight when they fast intermittently.

It makes sense. It creates a healing effect in your gut because it gives it time to rest. Reduce mama fog and possibly lose weight? Sign me up! Many people follow a regimen of eating during a ten hour window and then not eating for 14. Great thing is you can sleep for a lot of that!

Exercise

EXERCISE. It is such a 4 letter word. Or 8 letter, whatever. I know I hate it. I am sure you do too. But mama come on! We have got to do this. For us and our minds and for our kids. If you break it down into ‘moving your body for 20 minutes a day’ doesn’t it feel a whole lot easier than ‘plyometrics for 30 min to lose weight and get into your old jeans’? Come on I know you are thinking something like that, right? Putting a hard to reach goal on it can force your mind to try to talk you out of it. Keeping it small and manageable tricks your mind to keep you motivated. When you are done your mind will always feel more clear than when you start.

Get checked out

If you feel really off and you intuitively know it might be something else. Get it checked. There are so many things that can happen with moms especially right after a baby such as issues with your thyroid. Don’t wait to see what happens. Take action for you and your kiddos. It may be as easy as adding a specific nutrient like selenium. (Has been shown to help with thyroid function) Moms need to take care of themselves because we are taking care of everyone else <3
